Then it was taken over by the Khmer Rouge
Posted Sunday, 27 August 2006
Political prisoners were detained here and tortured before being taken to the Killing Fields to be bludgoned to death. As the paranoia and madness of the Khmer Rouge grew so did the number of prisoners. Whole families would be detained and murdered because of one persons supposed crimes - crimes included stealing food, not working hard enough in the fields, or falling in love.

When invading Vietnamese forces found this place, the former Tuol Sleng high school, the Khmer Rouge had left several torture victims shackled onto the beds where they died. In the picture in the background you can see the scene as it was the day the Vietnamese found the place. Only the body is gone - everything else they found in this room that day remains.
