Ben in the Golden Triangle Posted Tuesday, 02 May 2006 I'm in Thailand, right, and behind me on this side of the Mekong is Burma which is also called Myanmar (they have a casino there cos the Thais can't gamble in Thailand) and on the other side of the Mekong river is Laos. So this wa once the meeting point between the French and British Empires and Siam. And it's where loads of opium used to come from, and still does (but not in Thailand, apparently).
